Sustainability remains one of the most important issues in today's business policies, and car makers in the United States have begun to step up to promote greener, more efficient vehicles. Honda is no exception, and with 11 certified "green buildings" in North America, they're going above and beyond expectations.
Back in 1999, the Japanese automaker's first LEED-certified building was named in Gresham, OR. Today, the list has grown to include their Torrance, CA headquarters along with several other facilities across North America.
It's not just the buildings that are easy on the environment, however. The Honda Insight and CR-Z hybrids have been named some of the greenest cars on the road today. It's no wonder the factories where these cars are built are some of the greenest buildings in the country.
Buildings given the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) are those which are designed to reduce their carbon footprint and minimize energy use. Companies that receive LEED certification also get government tax breaks and grants in order to transform their buildings into eco-friendly environments.
Then it's no surprise that companies across the auto industry are producing greener vehicles in facilities that have a lesser impact on the environment. According to Honda spokesman Marcos Frommer, this belief is rooted in the idea that "consumers are looking for companies that are taking a holistic approach to reducing their environmental impact." 1
Tameron Honda located at 1675 Montgomery Highway Birmingham, AL, is proud to be a part of the effort to reduce our environmental impact. We're also dedicated to keeping you up-to-date on the latest Honda's news, so stay tuned!
